Language Exams

In addition to its extensive range of courses, the Language Center of the University of Vienna also offers examinations. Within the framework of German courses, learners can take the ÖSD examination (Austrian Language Certificate ÖSD – Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch – levels A2 to C2), or, as part of a German course, sit the German B2/2 examination, which is required for international students upon admission to Austrian universities.

As part of the foreign language services offered, clients can choose between the following examinations: language competency examinations (e.g. for Erasmus), the Swedish language examination Swedex and the university entrance qualification examination for English.

Additionally, the Language Center offers preparation courses for standard English certificate examinations like CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). While the Language Center organises these preparation courses, the examinations are conducted at the British Council.

  • German Language Examination B2/2:
Candidates can take this examination solely within the framework of a course. Sitting only the examination, without attending a course – as, for example, in the case of the ÖSD examination – is not possible. The examination fees are included in the tuition fees of all German courses which end with the course phase B2/2.
    Further Information

  • ÖSD-Exams:
Austrian Language Certificate ÖSD [österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch] examinations can be taken at the Language Center four times a year (in November, January, April and July). The registration deadline for ÖSD examinations is 4 weeks prior to the examination date. Registration can only be carried out directly at the Office [Sekretariat] of the Language Center (Office hours).
    Further Information
  • Language Competency Examinations
The offer addresses all individuals who require a language competency certificate for Erasmus, or other purposes.
    Further Information

  • University Entrance Qualification Examination for English

The prerequisite for taking this examination is a letter of admission [Zulassungsbescheid] issued by the University of Vienna. The Language Center organises the University Entrance Qualification Examination for English four times a year.
    Further Information

  • Swedex – Swedex Examination
The Language Center is the only Austrian institute which offers the Swedish Language certificate examination Swedex for the levels A2, B1 and B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
    Further Information
  • Cambrige English Exams & IELTS
The Language Center of the University of Vienna offers preparation courses for a number of internationally recognised, standard English language examinations. These courses are geared to the language requirements of individuals who envisage working or studying in an English-speaking environment.
Participation in these courses does not necessarily entail taking the respective examinations. Whether participants actually sit the respective examination or not, our preparation courses are well-suited in preparation for stays abroad.
