My teaching motto: Pick up the participants where they are. Make them aware of how much they can already do and not what they are still missing. Discovering and developing personal learning strategies together. And later let them successfully follow their individual "language learning path" all by themselves. And have fun at the same time! A great challenge for all teachers, but a wonderful one!

Where I come from: I was born in Graz, grew up in Carinthia and lived in English-speaking countries for almost 20 years.

My educational background: After completing my undergraduate studies in German and English in Vienna and Glasgow, I went to Bowling Green State University (Ohio, USA) for an MA and a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship. I then completed my PhD in England with a thesis on "The Protean Authorship of H.C. Artmann" at Queen Mary College, University of London.
My professional background: As a student equally fascinated by literature and cultural studies as by language work, I taught integration courses in Vienna and, after my teaching assistantship in the USA, worked for a year at the ÖSD in Vienna in the head office. As a lecturer and doctoral student in England, I pursued both interests and, among other things, managed the opening of an ÖSD examination center in Birmingham. During my doctoral studies, I taught German language and literature as a contract lecturer at a number of English universities, including Kings College London, the University of Nottingham, and Queen Mary College University of London. In 2011, I took over as Director of the Ingeborg Bachmann Center for Austrian Literature at the School of Advanced Studies, University of London, and held the position until 2017. From 2012, this was also followed by a lectureship in German Literature and Language at the University of Kent, Canterbury, where I worked until 2020, most recently as Senior Lecturer (Ass. Prof.) for German. My move to Austria in autumn 2020 also occurred at the same time as the launch of my company Thinkgerman.at, a language, cultural training and onboarding support service for highly skilled migrants and their employers.
My teaching motto: Efficiency, method and fun are not mutually exclusive! The joy of communication is my first priority.
