Registration for continuing students Winter semester
Mandatory pre-registration and course registration/payment
Please register online for the course:
Registration period: 20.06.2024 - 31.07.2024 (online pre-registration open as of 20.06.2024)
We ask you to register/pay quickly, the number of places is limited!
Step 1: VWU online pre-registration
As of 20.06.2024 upload here your current student record sheet (summer semester 2024). You can find the student record sheet in the student portal of your university, e.g. u:space at the University of Vienna or TISS at TU Wien.
If the documents are complete, you will receive an e-mail with the link to the registration/payment one to two days later .
Exceptions for the winter semester: German and additional subjects / EPD in June and September
Students with German and additional subjects: Please wait for your placement result at the end of the course.
- If your AP result (= course level for the next semester) is FG or WF, you will receive an e-mail from the office of VWU (vwusymbolvwupunktat). Follow the information in this email to register directly at the VWU in Sechshauser Straße.
- If your AP result is AN, AV or EV and you are taking a German course in the summer, you can register for a placement test. Please register and pay for the course in the winter semester. Email us your summer course certificate July or August). Please note: the new result applies, even if you do worse in the placement test!
- If your AP result is AN, AV or EV, please register online for the next course at the Sprachenzentrum.
Students taking the EPD: Please wait for the EPD result.
- If you passed the EPD, enroll for your degree program at your university.
- If you did not pass the EPD in June, repeat the EPD in September.
- If you did not pass the EPD in September, please register online for the next VWU German course as soon as possible. We will hold some remaining places. (Only register if you have not passed the EPD, otherwise we cannot refund the course fee).
Step 2 – Registration and payment for the course
You will receive your new personal customer login by e-mail; the login data of the last semester are no longer valid. You have to log in on our website for the registration and payment. Then click on the link in the e-mail. Register for the next semester and and pay for the course (€ 1.410,-; Visa, Mastercard or eps).
Would you like to take a new placement test?
If you are taking a German course in the summer, you can register for a placement test. To do so, please e-mail us your summer course transcript. Note: If you score lower on the placement test, the new score will apply!
Step 3 - Pay the Students' Union Fee (ÖH-Beitrag)
The student union fee is EUR 22.70.
Please pay the amount before the course starts! Without payment you will NOT be registered at your university for the next semester and you will not receive your student record sheet or other official documents (i.e. insurance confirmations or MA 35 documents).
Step 4 - We will e-mail you your course details
We will send an e-mail with the following course details approximately 3 days before the course starts:
- Course time
- Course location
- Teacher
- Course books
The course books are availabe at facultas am Campus.
Step 5 – We wish you a pleasant and successful course!
Your course will start on 27.02.2024.
Important deadlines and terms of cancellation for the winter semester
Deadlines for the winter semester 2023 (for continuing students):
Registration period 1: 22.06.2023 - 07.07.2023 (online pre-registration open as of 22.06.2023)
Registration period 2: 18.08.2023 – 13.09.2023 (online pre-registration open as of 10.08.2023)

Placement tests (registration and payment for the VWU German course in winter semester is mandatory):
If you have taken another German course in the summer, you can register for a placement test. Placements at the Language Center take place in person from 18.08.2023 to 14.09.2023.
- Registration and payment for the course in the winter semester
- Send an email with your certificate of a summer course (July or August). We will register you for the next available placement test. The appointment ist binding!
- Please note: your grade could change to the worse. The result of your placement test is binding.
- Students with additional subjects who wish to register at VWU in Sechshauser Straße must take the test by 05.09.2023 at the latest
Cancellation:
Cancelling the VWU German course is only possible with a certificate of exmatriculation or an admission as a degree programme student until 18.09.2023. There will be no refunds after this date. Please bring the relevant confirmation of the university and a confirmation of the health insurance (ÖGK – Österreichische Gesundheitskasse – former WGKK).
