Target Group:
This course is aimed at anybody who needs to be able to discuss Austrian and International current affairs in English. Participants should have at least a reasonable command of general English.

This course gives you the chance to discuss the week’s top stories and to review weekly television, radio and newspaper reports. More than just a conversation class, this course helps bring you up to date on current affairs from around the world. Using a variety of methods for content and discourse analysis, you will engage with stories from the leading UK and US English language broadsheet publications, including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Independent. You will also listen to and discuss excerpts from audio-visual news sources, such as BBC and CNN. In addition, each week you will be encouraged to bring in an up-to-date news story from Austria or another country, and to present this to the group.

Method and Handouts:
The course requires active participation, discussion and ideas-sharing from students. Each week you will receive a selection of the week’s news stories from various sources, and you will be required to bring in a news article in your own language. You also receive a booklet on phrases for English conversation, discussion and presentation, to help you get the most out of the course.
