PE Public Speaking Skills in the Academic Context B2
23.04.2020 - 04.06.2020
Donnerstags, 09:00 - 11:30
This course is aimed at non-native speakers of English seeking to enhance their stage presence and ability to captivate their English-speaking audience. You may have a solid level of English already, but lack the confidence to speak in front of larger groups. Or, you may wish to expand your repertoire of language to give your persuasion skills more impact and coherence. Or maybe you are looking to mitigate your inhibitions. Not least of all, audiences from different cultures may well have quite different expectations and attitudes from your usual home audience, so you may need to adapt your delivery to specific expectations.
“Public Speaking Skills” will help you develop the necessary language and delivery competencies to express your ideas, as well as techniques for the effective structuring of your speech. Our “Public Speaking Skills” training also tackles issues such as using visual aids, cultural influences, body language and other non-verbal means of communication, voice modulation and creating rapport.
The coaching will be held entirely in English and will feature an interactive, communicative approach, brainstorming and group deliberation. Therefore, besides solid skills in general English, participants will need to bring along a high degree of willingness to leave their comfort zone.
The practical exercises will be prepared in group work and delivered both individually, and collectively.
Participants will be filmed. Based on the video recordings, every practical exercise will be followed by peer and trainer feedback. These assessment and comment sessions, meant to boost participants’ awareness of their own and each other’s performance, will contribute to improving each individual’s delivery skills and reduce any inhibitions induced by setting, language, or personal factors.
Course materials will be recommended and/or supplied according to the needs and requirements of the participants.
