Target Group

This course is aimed at everyone seeking to increase fluency and improve their English skills through conversation. Topics will be agreed upon in the first course session.

Level

Participants should have a reasonable command of spoken English and be able to communicate their ideas clearly.
You can give detailed accounts of experiences, describing feelings and reactions. You can explain and give reasons for plans, intentions and actions. You can paraphrase short written passages orally in a simple fashion, using the wording and structure of the original text.

Content

The course provides a forum for conversation in a variety of contexts ranging from small talk to discussion of current affairs. The main focus lies on practising speaking English in various situations and roles to improve fluency and overcome fears and inhibitions. One of the key learning objectives will be a better understanding of the differences between formal and informal language as well as avoiding the usual pitfalls.

Method

Various conversation situations will provide ample opportunity to practise speaking and increase fluency. A number of feedback mechanisms (individual or group, immediately or afterwards) will help participants to also improve accuracy. Self-study opportunities will be suggested. The working language of this course will be English.
To be effective, this course requires a high level of active participation.
