Requirements:
on this course students are expected to have at least a CEFR B2 level. The minimum B2 level is called the Vantage level, the CEFR C1 level is called Efficient Operational Proficiency.
Objectives:
the main objective of this course is to take the student from the B2 to the C1 CEFR level.
The students will be aware of grammar at a C1 level and able to use it.
The students will develop a broad, flexible, vocabulary and expand both their productive and passive skills.They will be able to use English for social, academic and professional purposes. Course content will be based on the following themes: Encyclopedias and Knowledge; Science and Investigation; Travel. Grammar may include the present and future tenses, relative clauses and compound nouns.
Methodology
A communicative, action-orientated approach will be used in all four skills. There will be emphasis on productive skills through examples and practice.
‘Scaffolding’ or teacher support will be given and gradually reduced throughout the course, for the students to become more autonomous language learners.
The students will be shown specific learning strategies and taumght to practice skills which will enable them to deal with C1 level material.
Pair and group work will be used in order to give students maximum practice and speaking time.
The teachers will give constructive feedback on both the students’ written and spoken work.
At the end of the course, participants can receive a graded certificate subject to a minimum of 75% course attendance and passing grades in all four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). The ultimate decision regarding recognition (or non-recognition) of ECTS points (credits) lies with your university’s or institutes’ Study Program Administration [Studienprogrammleitung].
