Mondays, 18:00 - 20:30
UE: 30

Türkenstraße 3, 1090 Wien, SemRaum 1, 1. Stock

Target Group:
This course is aimed at B1-B2 level English speakers who want to improve their English pronunciation and reduce the impact of their “native” accent when speaking English. The course focuses on standard British English.
B1-C1 – participants should have at least a reasonable command of general English.
The course looks at the physical production of sounds, and helps you to build these into effective and accurate word and sentence stress. It also looks at pronunciation features in the context of conversation, and how to alter meaning through pronunciation.
You will listen to lots of British native speakers, and get chance to analyse their accent and pronunciation. You will also get lots of practice from reading out news stories, reciting poems and classical literature, and even trying a bit of basic Shakespeare. All participants will be able to record themselves at the beginning of the course, and again at the end, so that they can hear how you have improved.
Method and Handouts: The course requires active participation and – obviously – lots of spoken work! Some handouts will be available, but most of the work will be based on a solid and supportive collaboration between you and your trainer.

At the end of the course, participants can receive a graded certificate subject to a minimum of 75% course attendance and passing grades in all four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). The ultimate decision regarding recognition (or non-recognition) of ECTS points (credits) lies with your university’s or institutes’ Study Program Administration [Studienprogrammleitung].
3 ECTS, 3 semester credit hours.
