Grants and Discounts
The following persons are entitled to a reduction of certain course fees. Please upload your proof of discount when registering online or produce your proof when registering in person at our main office.
Discounts can only be granted until the end of the respective course. Subsequent applications for discounts cannot be considered.
N.B.: Discounts can only be granted on language courses (exception: IREWI and Latin), not on examination fees.
Recipients of federal aid for students at the University Vienna from Austria, Germany (BAföG), Southern Tyrol, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg) receive a discount of 50% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German) at the Language Center of the University of Vienna.
Required documents: Studienbeihilfebescheid of the relevant semester and confirmation of studies of the relevant semester (at University of Vienna) in which the course takes place:
- Winter semester: from October – February
- Summer semester: from March – September

Students at Austrian Universities and Fachhochschulen receive a discount of 25% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German).
Required document: confirmation of studies of the semester in which the course takes place:
- Winter semester: from October – February
- Summer semester: from March – September
School students at Austrian schools receive a discount of 25% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German).
Required document: valid school student card
Participants of a German Course at the Language Center receive a discount of 25% when attending a foreign language course.
Students and graduates (alumni) of the Postgraduate Center of the University of Vienna receive a course fee reduction of 25% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German and Latin).
This applies
- to all students with valid admission to a university course, certificate course or module of Studium Generale
Required document: confirmation of study (u:space) of the current semester in which the course takes place*
- to all graduates of a university course, certificate course or module of Studium Generale up to a maximum of 4 semesters after the respective graduation
Example: graduation in November 2022 - reduction possible until WiSe 2024/25*.
Required document: collective transcript (u:space), certificate or final transcript
* Winter semester: valid from October - February
Summer semester: valid from March - September
Individuals serving Zivildienst or Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (FSJ) receive a discount of 25% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German).
Required document: ID for individuals serving the Zivildienst or proof of FSJ
Employees of the University of Vienna and of the Medical University of Vienna receive a discount of 25% for
• foreign language courses
• German trimester courses and
• German intensive courses.*
Required document: employee-ID
*It applies to German intensive courses in February, July, August and September. We regret that no discounts can be granted for German semester courses.
Asylum seekers, people entitled to political asylum and displaced people in Austria receive:
a discount of 25% when attending
• a foreign language course
and a discount of 25% when attending
• a German trimester course
• a German intensive course
• a German semester course
Required document: asylum card (issued by the Austrian Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum), conventional passport or ID card for displaced people (Ausweis für Vertriebene)
Incoming students (Erasmus and non-EU exchange programs) receive
a discount of 25% when attending
• a foreign language course
and a discount of 20% when attending
• a German trimester course or
• a German intensive course.*
Required document: confirmation of enrolment issued by the International Office of your Vienna University
*It applies to German intensive courses in February, July, August and September. We regret that no discounts can be granted for German semester courses.
Members of the Alumni Association of the University of Vienna receive a discount of 10% when attending a foreign language course (all languages except German).
Required document: confirmation of membership (current year)
Members of ÖDaF receive a discount of 10% when attending a foreign language course.
Required document: confirmation of membership issued by ÖDaF (current year)
Employees of the University of Vienna and of the Medical University of Vienna receive a discount of 25% for

We do NOT grant any discounts on examination fees.

AMS-Grants
For specific groups, the AMS may fund courses taken at the Language Center. Please ask your AMS advisor for more details.
For courses taken at the Lanugage Center, one can apply for the grant of government of Lower Austria.
