Language & University
The Language Center offers (prospective) students of all study programs, university employees and alumni a wide range of general and specialised courses at various levels of proficiency, in more than thirty languages.
Students and scientists can thus be prepared for participation in exchange programs and for international research cooperation; furthermore, prospective students of non-German language background can prepare for their studies at various Austrian universities. The offer includes numerous European languages, as well as several Asian languages.
Preparation courses for standard international language tests and the organisation of these language tests round off the range of services offered by the Language Center.
Passing-mark Language Center certificates result in the granting of ECTS points. The ultimate decision regarding recognition (or non-recognition) lies with your university’s or institutes’ Study Program Administration (Studienprogrammleitung).

Learn German prior admission to the university
These German courses are open to everyone over the age of 16 and prepare students for university studies. The exams are aimed at proving German language skills to universities and similar institutions.
Learn German with admission to the university
These German courses are aimed exclusively at those persons who have already been admitted to a university in Vienna, but who are not yet able to prove that they have the required German language skills.
German language skills at level A2 are usually required for before asking for admission to a university. You can achieve this level with the help of our "pre-admission" courses.
Language courses for employees of the University of Vienna
Employees of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna receive a 25% discount when attending a regular German or Foreign Language Course. Course fees may also be covered by the Human Resources Department, please contact the department "Personalentwicklung" in advance.
