This seminar provides an opportunity to intensively explore and practice various types of oral communication in the university context.
Based on seminar participants' needs and interests, the course includes some or all of the following topics: smalltalk at conferences and similar events; spoken interaction in the context of presentations (Q&A sessions) or discussions; conversations with students before/during/after class as well as during office hours; interaction with visiting professors/lecturers or conference participants. In addition, the participants' individual conversation needs can be addressed as well. The final seminar content will be determined in the first course session.
Typical phrases and expressions for each conversation situation will be developed and practiced.
You already have basic English skills and can manage in most communicative situations. Now you would like to improve your speaking competence with a focus on university-context vocabulary and communicative situations.
Short inputs followed by trainer-supervised pair or group practice. Extensive practice phases with trainer and peer feedback consolidate your communicative skills and foster increased speaking confidence.
Course materials will be custom-tailored to participants' needs after the first course session. They primarily include words and phrases for particular communicative situations as well as further materials on the main contents of the course agreed in the first session.
