Language Competency Certificate

Examination Fees and Refund

Registration deadline: 1 week before the examination (online registration)
The certificates will be issued within 3 business days after the examination.

Examination fee: EUR 83
Important: This fee is applicable with a minimum number of 6 examinees. Two options are available in case the number of registrations for the examination should fall below 6: cost-free deregistration, or additional charge up to the single-examination rate of EUR 149 (up to C1) resp. EUR 170 (for C2). There are no discounts for Language Competency Certificates.


Refunds:

Students who have been successfully nominated for the Erasmus exchange program by the International Office of the University of Vienna can apply for a refund of EUR 40 for a language course or Language Competency Certificate. Please note that only language courses at level B1/Phase 3 and above will be refunded.

Recipients of study grants will receive a refund of EUR 81 upon presentation of the positive notification and can apply for a refund for up to two language competence certificates or courses.

The examination or language course must have taken place within the last three semesters.

Refunds can be obtained directly at the Language Center and are only possible within the following periods:

  • Summer semester (annually): 01.05. – 30.06.
  • Winter semester (annually): 10.11. – 10.12.
     

Refunds are paid out directly at the Language Center (see Office Hours) upon presentation of an identification document.

Important note: The International Office of the University of Vienna is financing this refund. We therefore ask for your understanding that only outgoing students at the University of Vienna can take advantage of this and that the International Office has very clear guidelines for this target group.

Certificates issued by the Language Center at the end of the following courses are also recognised as language competency certificates:

Important: In order to fulfil the host university’s CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level requirements, candidates must complete the respective third course phase successfully! Thus, if the host university requires a level B2 language competency certificate, the candidate will have to successfully complete a course at level B2/phase 3.
