Accessibility in class and during exams

Procedure for accessibility requirements

Do you require special assistance, or would you like to indicate accessibility needs?
Please indicate your request with EVERY course registration!
For data protection reasons, we do not hold your information. It is therefore essential that you restate your needs in the comments field each time you register for a course.

  • The head of department will coordinate possible adjustments with the participants and the instructor.
  • Your needs will be treated confidentially and will only be discussed with your consent.
  • During the course, you or your teacher can contact us confidentially at any time.

Please note that your requests can only be implemented within the scope of our capabilities. We may not be able to accommodate certain requests, especially if they are communicated after the course has already begun.

Accessibility arrangements in our courses

We aim to eliminate barriers in the classroom and can provide the following alternatives if your request is submitted on time, BEFORE the start of the course.

  • Selection of a suitable course location and/or venue (close to lifts, good lighting and acoustics, wheelchair-accessible room, short distances)
  • Support on arrival on the first day of the course (directions, personal welcome)
  • Admission of assistants or assistance dogs
  • Adapted break arrangements as required

Limitations

Despite our commitment to accessibility, there are organizational and technical limitations.
We are unable to offer the following services:

  • Accessible placement tests (except for wheelchair users, no individual adjustments possible)
  • Provision of complete lesson preparations in advance
  • Advice or support from teachers outside of course hours
  • Spontaneous special solutions without prior consultation with the head of the department
  • Provision of special technical aids (e.g., software, devices, ramps)
  • Presence of external accompanying persons without prior consultation

Accessible examinations

For exams with ECTS, there is a right to accessibility in accordance with §59 (1) Z 12 (University Act).

People with certified disabilities have the right to an accessible examination mode.

In consultation with the head of department, a tailored solution will be developed and communicated in a timely manner.

We appreciate your understanding that later announcements may not be taken into account due to organizational reasons.

Support and further information can be found at Accessible Studies (University of Vienna).
