The condensed Latin Courses at the Language Center fully prepare you for the Latin Supplementary Exam at the University of Vienna.

All preparation courses are designed to end 1–2 weeks before the next exam date. This gives you, as a participant, enough time to practice on your own and the possibility to complete the exam immediately after the end of the course. In a few cases our students decide to take the exam on the next date, which gives them more time to practice.

We teach Latin from the first word to the Latinum, which corresponds to the Matura level or the Latin Supplementary Exam. Graduates of our courses are able to translate basic texts from 2000 years of Latin literature with the help of a dictionary. The grammar of the language is taught in its entirety in the course, as well as the essential basic vocabulary and a specific translation method.

Our Latin Courses are designed to be interactive. The focus is on the correct translation method and the correct formulation of a German translation. After about 15 sessions in which the entire Latin grammar is worked on, 5 sessions follow in which exam texts of the last supplementary exams are translated and discussed. This way you will have translated more than 5 Latin exams by the time you enter your exam.

In the Latin Course you will work with a script (approx. 150 pages) specially developed for the Language Center. The script was created from Latin exam texts from the last 40 years. This means that from the first lesson onwards you will be taught exclusively with original texts and quotations and will build up a basic vocabulary specifically tailored to the exam. The course materials are included in the course fee. Due to the small group size (between 10 and 16 participants) and the high number of lessons (60 units), this course guarantees maximum individual attention despite its brevity.
